Congress is considering two pieces of legislation to feed U.S. carriers’ ceaseless appetite for more spectrum. But don’t expect those airwaves to be freed up overnight. The FCC’s next spectrum auction is likely two to three years away—at the earliest—but it could occur just as carriers begin to need more airwaves to meet demand for 5G services.
